The 38-Day Garment: What Made-to-Order Actually Means

Posted on

When we say made to order, we do not mean assembled from pre-made parts after you click buy. We mean that the fabric for your garment does not exist in its finished form until after your order is placed.

Here is what happens between your order confirmation and your delivery: The fabric is sourced and prepared. A karigar begins the tying — gathering precise points of cloth and wrapping each one individually with thread. For a Marazim dupatta, this stage alone takes up to three weeks. Then the fabric is dyed. Then the ties are released, one by one, revealing the pattern beneath. Then — where the design calls for it — embroidery is added by hand. Then the garment is constructed, checked, finished, and named.

The whole process takes between 25 and 38 days. We tell you this upfront because we think you deserve to know what you are waiting for. And because we think the waiting is part of the value.

A garment that takes 38 days to make is not a garment you will throw away. It is not a garment you will wear once and forget. It is something made specifically for your body, by a person who spent weeks on it, using techniques that have existed for millennia. The 38 days are not a delay. They are the work.

If you need something urgently, please contact us before ordering. We will always tell you honestly what is possible and what is not. What we will never do is rush a piece that was not made to be rushed.
